Rhode Island Food Culture: Dining, Drinking & Food Stuff

Hey All,
Does anyone know where to buy grape leaves (not prepared grape leaves but just the leaves themselves) around Providence? I'm dying to try a recipe using them but have no idea where to look.
Thanks in advance!!

Sarah,

I'm not sure if this is helpful but you could call the Hallak Middle Eastern Market on Mineral Spring Ave. The number is (401) 354-8677 and the address is: 1455 Mineral Spring Ave N. Providence. It is set back in a little strip mall. Also, if you're feeling adventurous you could simply take a walk in a local state park and pluck some wild leaves. Or you can stop by one of the local vineyards and ask them for some, I'm sure they would oblige.

Do you mean pickled for something like stuffed grape leaves? Or do you mean fresh grape leaves? If you're looking for pickled/preserved grape leaves in a brine go to a middle eastern market. I know there is one in North Providence. Here are the deets:

Hallak Middle East Market
1455 Mineral Spring Ave
North Providence, RI 02904-3148
(401) 354-8677‎

However if you're looking for fresh ones I'd suggest trying a local vineyard or looking for wild concord grapes growing around the area. Good luck and I hope this helps

Thanks guys! I ended up buying a jar of pickled grape leaves at Whole Foods and made stuffed grape leaves tonight. Although, after posting this request, I did see many grape vines around Providence with big beautiful leaves! I read fresh grape leaves are best harvested in early Spring so I thought the jarred variety would be best this time. Thanks!
