Ok kids - where's the best place in the Providence area to get fresh cuts of meat? I'm talking beef, pork, chicken, etc. - and ideally a spot where they make their own sausage, too!
Venda Ravoli on Atwells Ave. Excellent quality and surprising to me they are generally cheaper on everything compared to a regular supermarket including their deli meats. It's gets crowded there in the summer so see below.
If you hadn't given me limitations of Providence I would have included Dave's Market. I love the one in Warwick across from the Showcase Cinema. There meat is great. They have a great assortment of their own sausage including Cajun chicken and garlic cheese chicken. They are always worth that little bit extra of a drive for price and quality.
I've got nothing but raves for the folks at Michael's Boulevard Meats on Armistice Blvd in Pawtucket. The quality of their meats is excellent and they are very fair with their prices. I've had many different special orders--large and small--and they always do me right. They also make their own sausage. Right down the street from Michael's on Armistice is Jarosz Delicatessen. They have a GREAT assortment of home-made Polish sausage...kielbasa...pierogies, etc.
how about Tedesco's for their home made sausage...I think it's the best.....the RI Monthly gave them a good rating as well....known for their Italian brand, but have others, too. I am also a fan of their cold cuts....not a fancy place, very small in fact. It's when one goes by Palmieri's on Killingly St. and then goes right on Waterman, its right around that corner, so look quick. It's also across the street from Venda's... 401-273-9356.
Hi Chas,
I love Venda's Tuscan Sausage & their ground beef which they grind many times a day as needed.
I also purchase wonderful homemade sausages at Angelo's on Admiral St. just west of the Admiral / River St. intersection. I also have purchased meats/poultry from Armando's on Westminster St. They are very busy all of the time, but you take a number and they move along swiftly... Also, La Poblanita on Academy & Chalkstone, for great cuts of meat at terrific prices. I cook Mexican food quite often and they have everything i need to make a complete meal! Peppers, Tomatillos etc.. in addition to the meats.
Oh! And in Fall Reev...Mello's is awesome, with some of the best home-made chourico anywhere and--believe it or not--Polish meats and pierogies as well. A weird combination, but a very nice and small out-of-the-way place.
Tough to get "best" of all that in one place especially if best means money/value is not considered. Venda is great for meats. Can also do very well at Whole Foods, Butcher Shop on Elmgrove Ave. and East Side MP. Turkey - Antonelli's on Hill and Belwing. As far as "best" sausage, think that's too much a personal taste thing.
