Rhode Island Food Culture: Dining, Drinking & Food Stuff

As the weather turns warm, it would be great to enjoy a favorite wine: Gruner Veltliner. Does anyone know which restaurants carry them? I do not recall Gracie's, Fleming's, or Napa Grille having these wines on their lists.

Are you only looking in restaurants? Wine shops around town have Gruner Veltliner. It's a fantastic wine; so versatile.

Agree. Please pass your wine store suggestion carrying this liquid gold. Thanks!

There are a couple at Campus Fine Wines, although the '05 JR is sold out, and that was the best. Eno also has some. Have you tried Rotgipfler? It's another delicious Austrian white; kind of nutty, creamy, fleshy fruit. There's one bottle left (of JR) at Campus. I'm not sure what the vintage is, but I revisited it a couple of months ago and it was still showing well.

I thought Rotgipfler was a blending grape. Still, I'll check it out at Campus FW. Also, I just remember the only place I've had Gruner was at Nick's on Broadway. Those guys are always in the forefront.

Hey, we just put Lois GV on the menu by the glass if you're still looking!

Lois is one of my favorites but I thought the distributor was out. Hmmmm....

In a few weeks, 84 High St (Westerly) will be pouring Lois by the glass.
I have it on good authority that the distributor has plenty. The new vintage is in.

Gasbarro's in Seekonk usually has 3 or 4 GVs in stock. And Gasbarro's on Federal Hill usually has 2 (Huber and something else...).

A pilgrimage to Gracie's, 84 High St, Campus FW and Gasbarro's is in order. I just tasted the 2004 Brundlmayer Gruner Veltliner Loiser Berg Auslese. We'll, it destroyed this California wine guy to pieces. Thanks for all the tips.

This is our favorite white wine. In Germany and Austria it is so cheap you would puke...but enjoyed by all. It seems to be getting legs in the USA despite the fact that there is absolutely nothing new about it.

I am seeing it pop up more and more on menus locally.

Restaurants that carry: Persimmon, Farmstead (I believe), Chinese Laundry, I'll add more when I think of them...
